The Swansea City winger had surgery back in September to stitch his thigh muscle back together and was initially targetting January for his return.

But a further setback means that it will be February comeback at the earliest for the man who is out of contract this summer and seemingly likely to leave the club.

With Scott Sinclair and Nathan Dyer on such fine form, Butler has seen himself slip further down the pecking order and having not played in the league for nine months for the club running fast out of time to persuade Brendan Rodgers to offer him a new deal.
