The Swansea City manager effectively denied rumours linking Newcastle United, Blackburn Rovers, Bolton Wanderers and West Ham with two key names – Ashley Williams and Darren Pratley.

Newcastle were just this week reported as being ready to bid £4m for the defender whilst Pratley is out of contract this summer and could potentially leave on a free transfer.

However, Rodgers believes that players should stay and told the Evening Post  “I haven’t had any inquiries at all and I think most clubs will do a lot of their business in the summer rather than now

“And I also think that if you are an intelligent player, you’ll look at the club’s situation right now and you won’t want to go.

“Look where we could be in a few months’ time — as a player I would want to be part of that and I would be very surprised if we were to lose anyone at this stage.

“Those players are key players in a team hunting promotion. It’s in their interests to stay here and then we will see where we all are in the summer.”
