Brendan: An Opportunity Lost

The Swansea City manager was as disappointed as anyone after his side slipped to a surprise defeat to League One side Leyton Orient.

He told the official site after the game “Some managers may look at it and say it’s one less distraction from our league campaign, but I’m not like that

“I’m greedy and want win as many games as I can. As far as I am concerned, it’s an opportunity lost.

“We conceded two very poor goals,” added Brendan. “We should have dealt with the free-kick for the first goal a lot better, from our defensive line and with a 6ft 6in goalkeeper. But I warned them about the abilities of Jimmy Smith in the air, coming in late for set pieces.

“As for the own goal from Tatey at the end, we missed too many contacts from the throw in before that.

“But I won’t say anything derogatory about Tatey because he’s been fantastic this season.

“Like the rest of the dressing room, he’ll be disappointed, but his biggest attribute is his mentality. He’s a tough character and he’ll be fine.

“Congratulations to Leyton Orient they stayed with it until the end and we conceded the own goal to send them through.

“It’s disappointing to go out, especially at home. We didn’t test their ‘keeper enough because we didn’t have that bit of extra quality in the final third.

“That’s what can happen when you don’t turn your domination into goals – we are out of the tournament.

“But as a group we never get too carried away when we win and we can’t get too disappointed when we lose. Yes we are disappointed, but there was no lack of courage or bravery to get on the ball out there and if there is one thing about this group it’s their ability to bounce back.

“We’ll dust ourselves down and look to put it right with two tough games next week against Bristol City and Cardiff.”
