Jones brings his Cardiff City side to Swansea City tomorrow looking for the three points that will lift his side back above their close neighbours as the race for the Premier League hots up.
And he dismissed claims from opposite number Brendan Rodgers who stated that he was working with a tight budget in a seeming dig at their reasonably free spending neighbours.
Jones told the Evening Post “What lack of resources have they got?
“They have got a training a ground, a new stadium and they have got players.
“I don’t know what their finances are like, but didn’t they pay ยฃ500,000 for a striker or something like that?
“They are always the paupers, they keep trying to make that out, but I think a lot of it is just mind games.
“You get it with Billy (Davies) at Nottingham Forest. He is always bemoaning his luck and everything else, and yet he always seems to sign a player.
“Do I get involved? Not really. That’s for everybody else.
“They (Swansea) are a decent side and they have good facilities.
“There are a few teams who try to play it in the division and they play the system well.
“They have been playing it for a long time. Other teams have tried it, some have been successful and some haven’t.”
Asked if he had been impressed by Swansea’s style, Jones added: “There are a lot of clubs in the division who impress me with the way they play.
“I don’t think they will get it right every time, otherwise they wouldn’t be in the division.
“They have a system they do well and they get players in to play that way just like we do.
“Every manager will have his own way of doing things, but the majority of teams in this division now will try to play with what they have got.
“What you have to try to do is stop them using their strengths while using yours.
“I don’t know what it’s like down in Swansea, but we know better than anybody here that when you lose, the taste doesn’t go away for a long time,” he said.
“We lost last time. It hurt badly and we are focused on what we have to do.”
