Beattie came up with a 94th minute winner for Swansea City at Middlesbrough and afterwards he told the official website how he wanted more action in the shirt.

"I'm champing at the bit,'' declared Beattie. "The manager knows that. We've got a strong squad here and all I can do is try and show what I can do when I come in.

"The last couple of times I've come on I've done well and today I've nudged the winner. I can't do any more and the rest is the manager's decision. But whatever happens we are all in this together.

"The boys' attitude, resilience, endeavours and team spirit are second to none. Our first job is to secure a play-off place and then aim even higher. First place is our aim, but if we fall short then we'll be happy with

"I would have preferred a few more minutes on the pitch, but Ash's equaliser delayed my arrival by five or six minutes.  But I got on and nudged the winner and I'm absolutely delighted.

"If I'm honest I tried to play a pass to Dobbs but it came off the defender and sat up perfectly for me and landed in the bottom corner.

"I said in the dressing room before the game that I was desperate to score a tap-in, but I never seem to score those.''
