Leon – We Cannot Wonder “What If”

The Swansea City midfielder was part of Paulo Sousa's squad that fell away at the end of last season and eventually missed out on the play offs on the last day of the season last term.

And having returned to the club in January, Britton has urged his team mates not to get to the same stage this season and push on for the all important top two place.

“That’s one of the worst feelings you can get in football,” Britton told the Western Mail. “To be left wondering to yourself ‘what if’ is just horrible because it can eat away at you.

“You want to be in a position where you don’t have any regrets, whether you’re successful or not.

“Last year that wasn’t the case and there were definitely games that you’d go over in your mind and look back at them thinking we should have done this or that and that we could have got the win that would have made the difference.

“Your can’t put yourself in that position and at the end of this season we don’t want to look back to this spell of three games – or any other – and start thinking if only we picked up more points.

“You can’t call any game in this division winnable,” the 28-year-old said of the recent fixtures. “But you have to say that taking one point out of nine isn’t great after we’d won three in the previous week which had made a massive difference for us.

“I don’t think the performance at Derby was that bad – it was more bad goals to give away than anything.

“Don’t get me wrong, we’ve played a lot better but we made it difficult for ourselves. Even then, we still had opportunities.

“We’ve stayed positive and we all know this is an important week for us going into the Forest game because we have to be ready for that challenge.

“I don’t know if what me and Prats did is enough to get the nod,” he said. “You obviously hope so because you want to play every game, but at the same time I understand the situation that it might not be the case for whatever the reason.

“I did my best to try and get the team back in it at Derby and we managed to get a goal and make a few chances where we could have maybe even nicked something.

“We’ll see what happens against Forest but it’s always about being ready when you’re called upon and that’s what I’ll make sure of.”
