The Swansea City captain returned to action in the Swans last outing against Nottingham Forest – introduced as a late substitute in the 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest.
And many have tipped him to start against Preston on Saturday but Rodgers insists that this may not be the case – as he explained to the Evening Post.
"This is the sort of decision I get paid to make
"It's all about winning games for us now and all the players, especially in our last game against Nottingham Forest, have been magnificent for me.
"I need to gauge whether or not this is the right time for Garry to come back in.
"He is up to speed now after the injury and is available for me.
"I was reluctant to throw him straight back in, especially leading up to the international break, but I will have no qualms about starting him now if I need to."
"Garry is a fantastic leader of this club and every team needs leaders
"When he plays he gives us great leadership in terms of communication and organising the team.
"But you pick the team you think can get us results and if you look at the team in the last game, we were outstanding.
"I will just do what I have always done on this one. I will look at each game and try to pick a team to win it."
