Rangel Ready To Deliver On Martinez Promise

The day the defender signed for Swansea City he was told by Roberto Martinez – now with Wigan Athletic – that the Swans would be in the Premier League within four years.

Four years later and this is the Swans' best chance as they enter their 42nd game of the season with a real chance of making the top 2 having topped the 70 point barrier in Tuesday's draw with Hull City.

Rangel told the Evening Post "We have a great chance

"Of course we were disappointed to drop points against Hull in the week, but we are only two behind second place and there are still 15 points to play for.

"Cardiff are at home this weekend and I don't see them dropping too many more points between now and the end of the season.

"But we must keep fighting. We must try to win as many points as we can and see where it gets us at the end of the season.

"I remember when I signed, Roberto said to me that his project was to get Swansea into the Premier League in four seasons," he adds.

"This is the fourth season, and we are in the right place.

"The club is growing so much — you look at the players we have brought in and how the facilities are getting better.

"For me, getting to the Premier League would be a dream.

"It would be the best thing ever.  It would mean so much to me

"I have had a couple of chances to go to the Premier League but I didn't go for different reasons.

"Now I am really, really keen to get there. I have worked really hard to get this far after starting playing non-professional football in Spain.

"I have had to work hard because as a full-back, you don't get as much credit as maybe a striker who scores goals.

"I have had to play 100 games to get a name in British football.

"I feel I am ready to play in the Premier League now, and hopefully I can do it with Swansea. That would mean a lot.

"We have to improve away from home," Rangel concedes.

"We have not had the balance often enough this season.

"When we have been brilliant at home, we have not done well enough away.

"When we had a great run away

from home, we were not so good at home.

"We just have to fight for points wherever we are playing.

"It doesn't matter how we play now. Somehow, we have to get the points."
