Borini played his last Swansea City game in the play off final against Reading before leaving for Italy where he signed a five year deal with Parma prior to his loan move to the Swans.
Skipper Garry Monk said “Fabio is a great lad and talent and it was bitterly disappointing that we couldn’t keep hold of him. He played a major part in our run-in and will go down in the history of the club.
“It was hard to leave him in London but I’d like to thank him for his contribution.
“I know he had sorted out the Parma deal before he knew what was going on.
“But I’m sure if he knew what we would achieve, it would have made him think twice.”
Whilst manager Brendan Rodgers added “We’ll keep our eye on Fabio. We can’t get him for next year and it’s a shame we can’t take him on the next step of the journey. But maybe he can play for Swansea in the future. I sensed he was quiet in training one day so I had a chat with him. It had played on his mind because he’d been accepted so well.
“He had signed a pre-contract agreement with Parma in February, long before we came in for him.
“But as the love of Swansea and his life here grew, that became more difficult.
“He is an honest and open kid. He’s written a lovely letter which will come out to the supporters, players and the staff.”
