Freestone is a Swansea City legend after more than 700 appearances for the club during his career and was someone who passed up many opportunities to leave the club during that period.
And he told the Evening Post "I was very surprised with the news
"Dorus always stated he wanted to play Premier League football, Swansea gave him a chance to do that and now he's gone.
"I don't like to go around criticising players, but maybe the club deserved better. They gave him an opportunity and he's been very, very successful at Swansea.
"On the one hand, you can't blame him. If he can earn more money, he's got to better himself because it's a short career," said the 42-year-old.
"But I'm disappointed he's gone to Wolves where I think he's going to be No.2 to Wayne Hennessey.
"If he hasn't gone for more money I don't know why he's left.
"It's a big gamble because he's settled as first choice at Swansea.
"I just can't understand why he wants to move.
"I can't see Wolves doing any better than Swansea next season," added the Wales cap.
"They struggled last year and only stayed up by a point.
"I can see Swansea finishing above them because their style of play will suit the Premier League."
