It was reported at the weekend that the Swansea City defender was keen on a new deal at the Liberty Stadium and Rodgers has now stated that talks have started with the Wales international.
Speaking to the Western Mail, Rodgers said “It’s only the early stages.
“He has still got two years left on his current deal but he is one we are looking to secure.
“We want to bring him up to speed in terms of his wages.
“He is a player who has done remarkably well for this club over the past few seasons, playing consistently well.
“He will certainly earn his money next year and we want him to be on a par with everyone else at the club.
“Ash is a player who I have no doubt will step into the Premier League and do very well.
“We want to make sure everything for him is right, as I do with all my players.”
