Routledge will join Swansea City from Newcastle United and join the imminent signing of Leroy Lita as two strong additions to a squad that has already added the names of Jose Moreira, Steve Caulker and Danny Graham this summer.
And with manager Brendan Rodgers still on the hunt for a goalkeeper and possibly one more defender the summer shopping may not stop here as the Swans prepare for life in the Premier League.
It has now been reported that Routledge will sign for close on £2m – the second highest buy of the Swans history – and provide strong competition for the likes of Nathan Dyer and Scott Sinclair who were outstanding in last season's promotion drive.
Speaking to the Western Mail, Rodgers said “The bottom line is that we need to have a good squad, and these two are players who are going to help us stay in the league
“They have both played in the Premier League, they are both hungry to push on and they both have pace.”
The Swans are understood to have beaten off Birmingham, Leicester and Nottingham Forest to grab the services of Routledge.
