Our roving reporter, Ian Brown has been out and about talking to Manchester City fans about the upcoming game on Monday night
Ian visited Blue Moon, the busiest Man City forum and asked them questions about the upcoming visit of the Swans.
Ian’s questions were:
How long have you supported Manchester City and what first got you interested?
Who would you support if your team wasn’t around?
Are you a season ticket holder?
Do you mostly go to home or away matches?
Who is your all-time favourite player at your club?
Who is your present favourite player at your club?
What was the most important goal scored for your club and who scored it?Which (if any!!) of our players do you like?
What’s your prediction for our match, goal scorers etc.
Which team are your local and/or premiership rivals?
What league position do you think that you/we will achieve?
Glory – hunting fans are….
Referees are….
Strikingly most of the fans on the forum have been lifelong blues and have not jumped on the bandwagon following the arrival of the Sheikh at the club. As with a decent majority of Swans fans, the club was introduced to them at a young age and they have continued to follow the club through many years, promotions and relegations.
Unsurprisingly most of them would not follow Man Utd if the blue half of Manchester failed to exist and clearly there is little love lost between the red and blue halves of the city.
A range of players have graced the hallow turf at Maine Road and now the Eithiad Stadium and fans favourites include Colin Bell, Georgi Kinkladze, David Silva and – more interestingly – Paul Dickov.
The afore mentioned Dickov’s goal at Wembley in the 1999 play offs stands out for many as the most important goal as it fired City back into the second tier in a game that looked lost just minutes before the final whistle.
It’s the Swans flanks that worry them with Scott Sinclair, Nathan Dyer and Wayne Routledge all classed as the players that they like (or even fear?) from us.
All of them believe that they will retain a Champions League place through their league position this season although none believe (or is that dare to dream) that they could end the season as Premier League champions.
Glory hunting fans in their world are – most naturally – Man Utd fans while it is just safe to say that referees are not the most popular of people in Manchester. Or certainly not in the blue half…
And finally Ian received some direct messages from posters which said
i think were all happy for you and wish you well just not against us obviously. i hope you get 6 points against the scum, chelsea, arsenal, and liverpool, oh and spuds,
hang on if you do that you`ll be higher than us”
anyway lets hope we both have a good game and a good season if do you manage to stay up it will be a great achievement and although hard it isnt impossible.
again best of luck for the season
