Ian has been armed with his usual questions and below are a selection of the answer’s received.

How long have you supported Wigan Athletic and what first got you interested?

  • Hmm strange one, i sort of liked football but just England then i got to the age where i really got into it, around 2002 i would say. How i supported Wigan? Pretty random but it must of been due to just starting to take interest in them, i didnt just choose, i just gradually got more and more interested and then started to love them, now i love them as equally as any other fan, My local is Oxford UTD, and they are close to me too!
  • Since 1996, first season ticket was theyear we got promoted from division 3, my hometown club is my reason for being interested.
  • longer than i care to remember saw my first game in about 75 when we sneaked in from the athletics stadium next door started to regularly from 78

Who would you support if your team wasn’t around?

  • Oxford, my second team
  • I don’t know, I haven’t thought about it. My dad is a United Fan I guess, he used to go watching them every week in the 70’s and 80’s.
  • Probably one of the lower league local teams like Burscough
  • Newcastle, was always a fan of Shearer after meeting him in Toys r us once.

Are you a season ticket holder?

  • I wish.. if i could afford to travel and tickets!
  • Yes

Who is your all-time favourite player at your club?

  • Andy Liddell
  • Gary Teale. I was always told I resembled him.
  • Jason De Vos.
  • sir andy liddell, and lee mcculloch.

Who is your present favourite player at your club?

  • Ali Al Habsi
  • Conor Sammon. Hardly seen anything of him because he’s hardly played but he is an absolute unit.
  • ali al habsi, and victor moses.

What was the most important goal scored for your club and who scored it?

  • Unsworth, Hugo last season or Dukes vs Ipswich!
  • Choice of three, David Unsworth’s penalty at Bramall Lane, Hugo Rodallega’s header at Stoke last season, and Jason Roberts’ goal to send us to Cardiff at Highbury.
  • David Unsworth’s penalty against Sheffield United. Kept us in this division.
  • theres a few here, either roberts, mccullochs or ellingtons goals to get us to the promise land,,then theres david unsworths penalty away at sheff united to keep us up on the last day of season,,then who can forget last season,,nzogbia’s strike to send west ham down, then the week later hugo pops up frum nowere to head home..

Which (if any!!) of our players do you like?

  • Bodde! What happened with him?
  • Scott Sinclair, I didn’t want to let that guy go he was a good player when he played for us.
  • Joe Allen,Stephen Dobbie, Ferrie Boddie before his injury problems
  • i really like scott sinclair,,and also lita and routledge who you just signed, and angel rangel.

What’s your prediction for our match, goal scorers etc.

  • Us to grab a point, i hope for a very good 1st prem game outside of england!
  • I’ll go for a hearty 2-2, Sammon and Moses grabbing for us and Sinclair and Graham for you’s.
  • 1-0 Wigan. Victor Moses.
  • 2-1 Swansea. Graham twice and moses for us.

Which team are your local and/or premiership rivals?

  • Bolton Wanderers. Nothing means more to a true Latics fan than beating the that lot.
  • The inbreds of Bolton. Of course we are all hoping for a win against Man United at last.
  • Preston Burnley and Oldham, dont consider anyone in this league to be a true rival. Bolton are as close as it gets.

What league position do you think that you/we will achieve?

  • Us – Realisticly 10th to 12th, Martinez has built something special and it seems to have came together at the right time!
  • I think you will stay up in 15th, us one place above you in 14th
  • Swansea 20th, Wigan 13th
  • Us 16th you 17th

Glory –hunting fans are….

  • People who choose to support a top team because they win dont know how supporting a club feels when your down in lower leagues or facing losses week after week.
  • People who support United but have never been. I’ve been watching United at Old Trafford twice, more than most United fans.
  • Man United fans based in London…no actually just Man United fans in general.
  • glory hunters and generally insignifficant to me.

Referees are….

  • Tough job and get criticized for everything, but the bias towards top clubs is pretty constant, you will learn in the prem im sure.
  • harshly judged, they have a difficult job, sometimes fans don’t realize how difficult
  • Brave but shielded
  • most referees are against the smaller clubs, you’ll soon realise that in the prem pal..

Your Manager is…

  • A Wigan legend, intelligent person and will work wonders, ill assure you he would of never left Swansea
  • a manager who denied the chance to jump ship at the first opportunity and has proven loyalty to us. He also has a long term vision for Wigan Athletic which is unusual among managers.
  • Loyal. But needs to spend well to keep us going forward.
  • we all know roberto is a living legend thers not much more to say than that.

Our Manager is…

  • A good young manager, now he will be tested, needs time to adapt to this league, it might be tough, but staying up this season will be a good achievement, we learn to survive and to build on!
  • a good young manager that plays the right way
  • In a great job, no matter what happens this season (as it’s your first) he should keep his job.
  • a good manager with great love for your club and full of ambition.
