Leon Britton says that Brendan Rodger’s words at Shrewsbury have hit home amongst the squad as they prepare for the visit of Sunderland
Brendan was a naturally disappointed man after the Swans crashed 3-1 at their League Two opponents to exit the Carling Cup at their first point of entry.
Prior to the game, Brendan had called on his side to stake their claim for places in the starting line up this weekend – or at least that was the challenge to those that were coming in for their first start of the season at least.
After the game Brendan stated that he believed several players had staked a clear claim not to start against Sunderland and Leon said “He was more disappointed than angry,
“The manager isn’t a raver or shouter, but when he says stuff it really carries some meaning, makes you think a bit more.
‘He was probably as annoyed as I’ve seen him – he said a few things in the dressing room afterwards. We all took notice.
“He was telling us that we’ve played in the Premier League against Manchester City and we can always remember that. But he said we had gone to Shrewsbury and lost in the cup and we should make sure we tell our grandchildren about that as well. He was right. We will pick up.”
