Rodgers Happy With Deadline Day Additions

Brendan Rodgers was a happy man after completing his last few pieces of business on transfer deadline day

The Swansea City manager added three new faces to his squad before the transfer window shut at 11pm on Wednesday taking his total signings in the summer transfer window to 10 with spending beyond any budget the club had ever worked with before.

“There was never going to be any massive business involving us because we had done the bulk of our work, ” Rodgers told the Evening Post

“We needed to reinforce the group, to get some cover, and we’ve done that.

“Yes there were one or two things I asked about which didn’t come off, but that’s the nature of transfer dealings.

“Darnel is a player for the future, although there is no reason why he can’t play in the Premier League this season if he has the right attitude and the right concentration,” Rodgers added.

“You don’t have to have played a million games to play in the Premier League — Steven Caulker has shown that this season.

“Darnel may take a little bit of time to settle after coming in from France, but he has the right attitude and suits our style.

“The thing that interests me with Rafik Halliche is that he has had a year to look at the Premier League with Fulham and he has also played at a World Cup, so he will give us good competition once the deal goes through.

“Fede did very well in the final season before he left here,” Rodgers pointed out.

“He comes back to a very different club, but we need competition in the group and my fear was that if we lost Neil Taylor for any reason, the balance of the team would be affected. In Fede we have someone who knows the system. He will provide cover and support and will also challenge.”
