Brendan Rodgers has told his side that they cannot just rely on their home form if they want to stay in the Premier League
Rodgers was speaking after his side lost their fourth successive away fixture in the Premier League on Saturday – this time a 3-1 defeat at Norwich giving them 0 points from their four trips to date.
Contrast that with 8 points from 4 fixtures at the Liberty and it gives them a decent enough position in the table but Brendan knows that they have to start earning on their travels rather than just relying on the Liberty becoming a fortress.
He saidย โI donโt feel any pressure about the side when we go away. I think itโs all the same, if youโre home or away you need and look to win games.
โOur home form since Iโve been here has been fantastic but thereโs no doubt we canโt rely on just that. We have to get points and ultimately wins away from home as well because there will come a time when things wonโt go our way at the Liberty. That said, here there was something missing with our defensive side of the game which is normally very good. No matter who the opponent is, the defending has to be better.
โEveryone talks about our style and what we do going forward, but normally we are also very good defensively. We have kept four clean sheets already this season which is no mean feat for a newly promoted side.
โSo to be disappointed with the way weโve defended is not something Iโm used to.
โOffensively I thought we were a threat, our movement was good, we reacted very well to going behind and got ourselves into the game. But ultimately we didnโt defend well enough as a team today and get the basics right.
โWe understand where we are,โ said Rodgers of his players. โTheyโve knuckled down and realised this is the most competitive league in the world so Iโm not going to kill them. Weโre going to have days like this as we did last year.
โWhatโs important is the ability to bounce back and go again as we have done in the past. Weโve hardly lost two games in a row since Iโve been here and that shows the mentality and the honesty of the players. Weโll recover well, have a good weekโs training and be motivated to get a good result at Wolves.โ
