Brendan – We Cannot Rely On Just Home Form

Brendan Rodgers has told his side that they cannot just rely on their home form if they want to stay in the Premier League

Rodgers was speaking after his side lost their fourth successive away fixture in the Premier League on Saturday – this time a 3-1 defeat at Norwich giving them 0 points from their four trips to date.

Contrast that with 8 points from 4 fixtures at the Liberty and it gives them a decent enough position in the table but Brendan knows that they have to start earning on their travels rather than just relying on the Liberty becoming a fortress.

He saidย โ€œI donโ€™t feel any pressure about the side when we go away. I think itโ€™s all the same, if youโ€™re home or away you need and look to win games.

โ€œOur home form since Iโ€™ve been here has been fantastic but thereโ€™s no doubt we canโ€™t rely on just that. We have to get points and ultimately wins away from home as well because there will come a time when things wonโ€™t go our way at the Liberty. That said, here there was something missing with our defensive side of the game which is normally very good. No matter who the opponent is, the defending has to be better.

โ€œEveryone talks about our style and what we do going forward, but normally we are also very good defensively. We have kept four clean sheets already this season which is no mean feat for a newly promoted side.

โ€œSo to be disappointed with the way weโ€™ve defended is not something Iโ€™m used to.

โ€œOffensively I thought we were a threat, our movement was good, we reacted very well to going behind and got ourselves into the game. But ultimately we didnโ€™t defend well enough as a team today and get the basics right.

โ€œWe understand where we are,โ€ said Rodgers of his players. โ€œTheyโ€™ve knuckled down and realised this is the most competitive league in the world so Iโ€™m not going to kill them. Weโ€™re going to have days like this as we did last year.

โ€œWhatโ€™s important is the ability to bounce back and go again as we have done in the past. Weโ€™ve hardly lost two games in a row since Iโ€™ve been here and that shows the mentality and the honesty of the players. Weโ€™ll recover well, have a good weekโ€™s training and be motivated to get a good result at Wolves.โ€
