Brendan Rodgers declared his side ‘outstanding’ despite them throwing away a two goal lead at Wolves
Rodgers said after the gameย “We were outstanding today
“I thought we controlled the game with and without the ball, but to lose it like we did is difficult to take.
“But it’s out first point away from home and our performance was fantastic.
“Like last week at Norwich, there were a lot of positives to take from today,” he said. “But great credit goes to the players because they gave everything today.”
“We need to learn and learn quickly,” he added. “It was strange because we had never been in that position before this season where we were 2-0 up away from home.
“For 80-odd minutes it was a perfect away performance, but it’s obviously disappointing after playing that well and not picking up all three points.
“But With a bit more luck we could have had a few more.
“What I do know is about players,” said Brendan. “I’ve known Danny for a long time and he scores in streaks but his touch and movement today was very good.”
For the home side the result meant they stopped a run of five successive defeats, but boss Mick McCarthy admits his side had their fair share of luck.
“It was a great point for us and I’m delighted,” he said. “But we were really, really lucky.
“We’ve played a lot better than that in previous games and got nothing, but the players kept going and got a result for themselves and for the club.”
