Garry Monk has labelled this weekend’s clash with Man Utd as the biggest game in the club’s history

MOnk also believes that the Swans have now got to the stage where the atmosphere at the Liberty has outstripped the atmosphere at the Vetch .

He told the Western Mail “United have been champions for a record number of times now and are one of the biggest clubs in Europe and around the world.

“They have fantastic players and history so it’s the biggest game we’ve had in the club’s history.

“It’s one everyone connected to the club – the players, the fans and the city – are looking forward to. It will be a great occasion for everyone.

“When we left the Vetch, people were worried about moving to the Liberty because of the history and atmosphere. But we have created the best history of the club at this stadium,” added Monk.

“Year upon year we have created history and this will be another chapter. It will be the biggest game held here. It’s something everyone can be proud of and if we can get a result it will be the icing on the cake.

“Sir Alex is the master of regenerating a team. He’s got another generation coming and they are gelling together. They may not have gelled as well as previous sides yet but they are still good enough to win the title.”

“People are talking about Man City and they are flying right now. It’ll be between the two Manchester clubs.

“But you never ever write United off. They have proven that year after year.

“They went through a period of games last season where they weren’t playing well by their standards, but that standard is still good enough to win game after game after game.

“It’’s the culture of the club to come back. When they are young, it’s drummed into them to never give up. They get results and it’s why they have been champions so many times.”
