Ashley Williams knows that Welsh football has a massive void in it now after the sudden and tragic passing of Gary Speed

Williams was completely shell shocked by the news that filtered through to the Liberty Stadium just an hour before kick off yesterday afternoon but elected to play on – playing his part in another Swans clean sheet as they continued their Premier League progression.

BUt after the game, his thoughts turned back immediately to his international manager and he said “You can see how the Wales team are playing now — for Welsh football he’s done loads

“I’m still in shock.

“You can’t fill a gap like that to be honest.

“There wasn’t a discussion. We wanted to play,” he added.

“He was a footballing man, his life was football so we wanted to play for that reason.

“Everyone found out at the same sort of time, just before the warm-up”
