Caulker Keen To Play For Team GB

Steven Caulker would not rule out playing for Team GB at the London 2012 Olympics if the chance came around

Caulker has been in brilliant form for the Swans this season, helping them to their current 10th placed position in the Premier League.

And he is also one of four players at the club who have been asked if he would be interested in playing if the chance came around

Caulker said: โ€œIf the Olympics does go ahead with a GB Team, it would be fantastic to be a part of it.

โ€œIโ€™ve got to keep playing at my best until the end of the season and hopefully I will get that opportunity.

โ€œIโ€™ve never really been a big fan of Olympic football, but if I got the opportunity this year I would be buzzing.”

Caulker’s name has also been linked with an England call up which could add to his excitement with Euro 2012 looming large on the horizonย โ€œThat (call-up) is obviously for Capello to say, but it hasnโ€™t really come into my mind yet,โ€ added Caulker.

โ€œIโ€™m playing U21s at the moment and Iโ€™m just concentrating on doing well for them.

โ€œDefinitely in the long-term picture, it would be a dream to play for England.

โ€œYou have to keep working, keep playing well and hopefully that chance will come.

โ€œHe (Capello) has given a lot of young English boys an opportunity over the last few years so itโ€™s promising that heโ€™s coming here.

โ€œIโ€™m not getting ahead of myself yet, but itโ€™s exciting.

โ€œItโ€™s three goals in three games for Nathan and we always knew he could score, Iโ€™m pleased to see him start hitting the net.

โ€œThe Premier League is massive and the spotlight on it is huge. When you are playing on a big stage, if you do well youโ€™ll get recognised. So far so good.

โ€œThereโ€™s no reason why they canโ€™t make the squad, Theo Walcott was on show today and Nathanโ€™s out-classed him so he can break through.

โ€œTheyโ€™ve been fantastic throughout the whole season.

โ€œThere are a lot of Welsh internationals here and it would be a great achievement for all of us if we could get the England call-up.

โ€œBut weโ€™ve got to concentrate on our league performances first.”

Caulker played his part in Sunday’s 3-2 victory over Arsenal which put to bed memories of his debut for Spurs – against Arsenal in a 4-1 defeat

โ€œItโ€™s amazing what a difference a year or so can make,โ€ said Caulker, who previously spent time on loan at Bristol City and Yeovil.

โ€œI will have much better memories of this game.

โ€œIt was a great game to play in and a fantastic result โ€“ the boys are buzzing.

โ€œOur three results, drawing with Spurs, beating Aston Villa and now beating Arsenal, means itโ€™s been a great start to the new year and we are looking to build on it.

โ€œWe are in the top half of the table and thatโ€™s where we want to stay.

โ€œWe donโ€™t want to be looking over our shoulder at the relegation places. Hopefully we can get as many points as possible and continue to build.โ€
