Brendan Not Worried By Away Form

Brendan Rodgers says he isn’t that concerned where the Swans get their points but would like enough for safety as soon as possible

Rodgers takes his side back on the road tomorrow in search of a win at Wigan that will take them three points closer to the desired safety mark as they look to secure another season in the Premier League.

“You can look at a number of reasons,”Rodgers told the Western Mail when questioned on the difference between their home and away records. “But ultimately it’s a very difficult league and even established teams can struggle to get results away from home.

“And, with all due respect, I’m not overly concerned how we get the points.

“If we could match our away record with our home we’d be near the top, but we know where we are as a club and know our objectives. We know the performance levels have not always been there away and we need to improve in some areas.

“But we want to get mathematically safe as quickly as we can and however we get the points on the board to do that, whether its home or away, that’s the most important objective.

“It’s not a frustration that that’s happened a few times, but it does give me a determination to get greater consistency.

“We’ve got to difficult places to get results away from home so it’s not to do with being bullied or other things that have been mentioned.

“It is consistency in defending and at times we have not had it – it’s as simple as that.

“The challenge we have is to retain our focus and make sure we do the ugly bits.

“Whether it’s a win or a point, the important thing is to get a result to take us closer to where we want to be,” said Rodgers. “I don’t buy it’s more important because of Man City next week – it’s hard to forecast and you could argue we’ve picked up points against the top teams at home anyway.

“It’s an important game in it’s own right and we want a point at the minimum.

“But I do feel we can win the game and if we ensure we do our jobs, perform with the ball and be consistent without it we can be confident of doing that.

“I still say if we stay up it will be a greater achievement than getting here.”
