Speaking to todays Western Mail Michael Laudrup says his recent big money buys are more likely to be on the bench for the trip to Villa tomorrow.
“Sure, I have tough decisions,”
“It’s the same with Ki coming into the midfield where the three have played so well.
“It’s not a question that you put in players because they cost £1m, £5m or £10m.
“You see the bigger picture and that is we have a squad where if we make changes between games we will maintain the levels we have shown.
“Or even, if we change things during games or with 20 minutes to go, we can improve things as Ki did coming on in difficult circumstances against Sunderland. Of course, everyone will ask when everybody is fit who plays?”
“In the wide roles we have three fantastic players for two places and that gives us the competition we need for all positions.
“Pablo is fit, although he did not play the first two games in Spain because he wanted to come here.”
“But Nathan and Wayne have started really well.”
“But today is one thing and next week another. For me it is a squad and you can’t play with 11 or 13 or 14 players.
“I want a squad where there is competition, where no-one is far from playing.”
“I don’t know if we’re favourites, but I don’t think we should be against a big club away from home,” “They did not do great last season and have not started well, but they had a good draw at Newcastle before the break.
“So it becomes a very important test for us – and every time we have these tests we will be better for the experience.”
“We’ve had tests against QPR and Sunderland and now against a big club at a time where they must win. It will be good to see how we cope with that.”
