Monk who saw ย a proposed summer transfer to Bristol City fall through due to a back injuryย has insisted he will not give up on his career at Swansea City without a fight,Monk who was believed to be not wanted by Michael Laudrup played his first game of the season at Crawley Town on Tuesday.
Speaking to todays South Wales Evening Post Monk said:
โIโll never give up, Iโve never done it from the start and I wonโt do it in my time here,โ he said.
โIโve been injured for about five weeks and thereโs been speculation about a loan to here, there and everywhere, but my injury dictated things.
โIโm just thankful to be able to get a run-out because Iโve got to get back and fit, build on this game and see where it takes me.
โIโve said all along I donโt want to leave the club and hopefully I can force my way into the managerโs plans in some capacity in the first-team squad.
โIf itโs not to be weโll have to assess it again in the future, but right now I just want to get fit.โ
โWeโll assess it later down the line, perhaps January, perhaps sooner than that, it depends on how good I feel over the next few weeks,โ he added.
โIf I can get a few weeksโ training under my belt and it looks like Iโve got absolutely no chance then Iโll have to really have a look at it.
โJanuary is probably the more realistic one if Iโm not involved at all by then, but hopefully I will be.
โI can only do what I did at Crawley and try to improve in training, to push the boys who are in front of me and see where it takes me.
โIโll keep pushing, but also know I have to be realistic.
โIโm not saying I should be starting Saturday, but it will be nice to push a bit harder and see where it takes me.
โThatโs what I want in my mind, but also being realistic I know itโs down to what the manager wants.โ
Michael Laudrup added:
โIt was great that Garry could play 90 minutes.
โHe had some cramp at the end, but not enough to stop him jumping for the corner!
โI am happy for him and I am happy for the other players as well because it gives them a good feeling.
โIt is a boost for those players as well as the team.โ
Monk in the meantime thinks:
โWe were disappointed after Everton because it was our poorest performance in a long time, especially in the first half where we did things weโve not done for a long, long time,โ
โItโs not for a lack of effort ever, but we made some individual mistakes, we didnโt play as much as a team as we can and we got punished by a good side.
โWe also realise Everton are in good form at the moment so we canโt get too down about it, itโs about how we react and we reacted well at Crawley.
โHopefully we can carry that on at Stoke.โ
