Monk who saw ย a proposed summer transfer to Bristol City fall through due to a back injuryย has insisted he will not give up on his career at Swansea City without a fight,Monk who was believed to be not wanted by Michael Laudrup played his first game of the season at Crawley Town on Tuesday.

Speaking to todays South Wales Evening Post Monk said:

โ€œIโ€™ll never give up, Iโ€™ve never done it from the start and I wonโ€™t do it in my time here,โ€ he said.

โ€œIโ€™ve been injured for about five weeks and thereโ€™s been speculation about a loan to here, there and everywhere, but my injury dictated things.

โ€œIโ€™m just thankful to be able to get a run-out because Iโ€™ve got to get back and fit, build on this game and see where it takes me.

โ€œIโ€™ve said all along I donโ€™t want to leave the club and hopefully I can force my way into the managerโ€™s plans in some capacity in the first-team squad.

โ€œIf itโ€™s not to be weโ€™ll have to assess it again in the future, but right now I just want to get fit.โ€

โ€œWeโ€™ll assess it later down the line, perhaps January, perhaps sooner than that, it depends on how good I feel over the next few weeks,โ€ he added.

โ€œIf I can get a few weeksโ€™ training under my belt and it looks like Iโ€™ve got absolutely no chance then Iโ€™ll have to really have a look at it.

โ€œJanuary is probably the more realistic one if Iโ€™m not involved at all by then, but hopefully I will be.

โ€œI can only do what I did at Crawley and try to improve in training, to push the boys who are in front of me and see where it takes me.

โ€œIโ€™ll keep pushing, but also know I have to be realistic.

โ€œIโ€™m not saying I should be starting Saturday, but it will be nice to push a bit harder and see where it takes me.

โ€œThatโ€™s what I want in my mind, but also being realistic I know itโ€™s down to what the manager wants.โ€

Michael Laudrup added:

โ€œIt was great that Garry could play 90 minutes.

โ€œHe had some cramp at the end, but not enough to stop him jumping for the corner!

โ€œI am happy for him and I am happy for the other players as well because it gives them a good feeling.

โ€œIt is a boost for those players as well as the team.โ€

Monk in the meantime thinks:

โ€œWe were disappointed after Everton because it was our poorest performance in a long time, especially in the first half where we did things weโ€™ve not done for a long, long time,โ€

โ€œItโ€™s not for a lack of effort ever, but we made some individual mistakes, we didnโ€™t play as much as a team as we can and we got punished by a good side.

โ€œWe also realise Everton are in good form at the moment so we canโ€™t get too down about it, itโ€™s about how we react and we reacted well at Crawley.

โ€œHopefully we can carry that on at Stoke.โ€
