For now, last Sunday and the emphatic Wembley win should be out of our minds and we should have full concentration for the next 11 games on the league. With 37 points on the board, it is widely expected that around the 50 mark will see us in the top half of the table. It was 47 last time around and that was 11th so 50 looks to be a reasonable target on that basis.
So that gives us 11 games to pick up the 13 points which is below the form that we have shown in the season to date which is a good starting block and we have enoguh games at the Liberty to earn those points at home before we even consider the away games.
So who do we have left to play?
Home: Newcastle, Arsenal, Tottenham, Southampton, Man City, Fulham
Away: West Brom, Norwich, Wigan, Chelsea, Man Utd
What we do know is that the team is good enough to get points out of all those games. If you look at last season Arsenal, Man City and Fulham all lost at the Liberty and we drew with Tottenham. We won at West Brom and Wigan last time around so that would be 16 points if we matched last year alone. And let’s not forget we have already won at Stamford Bridge once this season as well…
Realistically we have more chances in the home games with Newcastle, Southampton and Fulham and the away hames at West Brom, Norwich and Wigan. But let’s not be negative here we have – with the exception of Norwich – taken Premier League points off all the teams we have left to play so we have every chance of that Top 10 finish and maybe beyond that.
What we do know though is that we all have a part to play in the remainder of the season and we need to be behind the team to get them through the 40 point barrier tomorrow and onwards towards the 50 point barrier.
We can do it – we’re League Cup winners after all!
