Shelvey joins the other summer signings – Jordi Amat, Jose Canas, Jonathan De Guzman and Alejandro Pozuelo in what is turning into a pretty ambitious summer spending spree for the Swans.
Add to that potential moves for Bony and Gomis and this squad is turning into a squad that is more than capable of building on last year’s 9th placed finish and Capital One Cup triumph.
As the squad headed off to Holland today to continue their pre season preparations they went on the back of these moves that seem to laugh in the face of the early close season predictions of doom and gloom that the board were not prepared to back their manager in the transfer market. Add to that the claims that we were too slow off the mark and this just seems to stick two fingers up to those claims.
It was rumoured that the catalyst for the claims was the fact that we missed out on Kenwyne Jones but if we were to secure a move for Bony or Gomis (or both?) then I can’t see anyone losing sleep over Jones let alone our manager.
Is it also any coincidence that these deals are coming thick and fast since we elected to stop all dealings with Bayram the agent? For some of his comments in the press and some of the claims coming from him it seems reasonable to assume that he wasn’t exactly helping our dealings with players and there have been plenty of rumours floating around that we aren’t the only people who dislike dealing with the agent in question so yet again does it seem like the Chairman is right in the way he has gone about the business? Certainly seems so from where we are sat.
Four weeks tomorrow we will start our European campaign and I would be amazed if we don’t have at least two more additions before that date and right now I cant wait for the season to come around, I just can’t help but feel it will top last season somehow.
Onwards – as ever. Bayram, take note!
