Thanks….But No Thanks

Don’t get me wrong, the offer – if it comes – would be massively tempting to sell but it would also hamper our chances of progression this season both domestically and in Europe.

And that’s not forgetting the fact that the manager has already declared that he would be reluctant to sell anyone if he didn’t have a replacement lined up and that bids towards the end of the transfer window would be more likely to be turned down as it wouldn’t afford that time to get in the replacements.

Of course these are just ‘reported’ at the moment and there appears to have been no official bid and maybe it’s hope more than anything but I just cannot see the Swans being tempted by what is a mind boggling amount of money.

So why do I think that? Well in Ashley we have our club captain and a rock steady part of our defence for many years. He has the capacity to play at a higher level we know that but I think the club have always planned to stand firm on any move for him this summer and I don’t see that changing in the last two weeks of the transfer window?

Michu was of course the bargain of last season and that was always going to mean he attracted interest although interestingly that interest never really materialised this summer. Michael has said that he wants to add to his forward line and selling last season’s top goalscorer would make that harder as we would effectively need two players. Again I therefore cannot see a sale going on at this moment in time.

Does it make a difference that Arsenal are reportedly looking at the two together? No I don’t think so. We are a club in a different position than we have been before in that we do not need to sell and this close to the end of the window I think we will hold firm and that both Ash and Michu will be here come September 3rd.
