Small Details – But Big Results?

Laudrup is normally spot on in his post match press conference but today I felt that he got it wrong as the Swans looked to struggle for large periods of the game to stamp any authority on the match and eventually probably just about got what they deserved.

รขโ‚ฌล“I think disappointment is the best way to describe how everybody feels right now,รขโ‚ฌย said Laudrup. รขโ‚ฌล“Losing is always disappointing, but in games like these even more so.

รขโ‚ฌล“If you could see the players now, they are all down because, for them, it was a very important game. The players wanted to give everything.”

To me the issue with that statement is that the players didn’t give everything and too many seemed off the boil again today as we stuttered through what appears to becoming a normal pattern. If you look back at the last four games starting with the first half against Sunderland we haven’t had the fluent passing football that we have become used to seeing and I think the harsh reality of 5 wins in 21 Premier League games since we won the Capital One Cup is a statistic that we cannot avoid.

Twenty points have come that way in that period and that is a run of form that we have to look to reverse starting next week against Stoke at the Liberty

รขโ‚ฌล“We felt that they didnรขโ‚ฌโ„ขt create that much to deserve to win the game, but we know that in games like these it can be a set-piece or an opposition mistake that can win you the game.

รขโ‚ฌล“At the end, we had another couple of chances to score, but two good saves from Marshall prevented us from scoring.

รขโ‚ฌล“Overall, it just came down to small details. They won the game, so unfortunately, we have to accept that.รขโ‚ฌย

For me today it was definitely the manner of the defeat that hurt more and we must now look to the side to lift themselves and push on over the next two games before we break again for internationals.
