It’s A Familiar Tale Though Boss?

But we have to say that looking back at ‘an unfortunate decision’ or ‘five minutes of madness’ or ‘wasted chances’ is pretty much what the season is becoming known for after another display which showed much promise but ultimately yielded a nil return for the Swans.

If there is one thing that stands out this season it is our ability to dominate large periods of play but fail to have the cutting edge that is needed to ensure that we get the results we desire. Whether it is a poor finish, a good save or just one pass too many it is becoming a familiar tale for the Swans and one that needs to end straight away (where have we heard that before)

I am sure that there aren’t too many Swans fans now that wouldn’t swap domination of a game for more goals than the opposition and points on the board as we search out the necessary reward that will see us in the Premier League for another season next year.

And if we seal that place then there is much work to be done over the summer to work at turning domination of games into the wins that it should deserve rather than sitting back after the game and wondering what may have been with familiar comments from whoever the manager may be.

“When you come to play at places like this, there are always going to be periods when the opposition will have some pressure,” Monk said.

“When that happens, you have to manage it properly. You have to dig in and come through it and make the right decisions.

“We didn’t do that for five minutes in the second half and that cost us dearly. It gave us a mountain to climb.

“Even if we had conceded only one goal in that spell rather than two, we could have got something from the game.”

The problem though at the moment is that any form of pressure from the opposition and we seem to concede goals in that spell where as any pressure that we exert seems to see opponents hold on and then punish us as soon as they get the chance.

Crystal Palace, West Brom and Everton in the last three games could have yielded upwards of six points had we taken chances whilst we were on top but instead we have just a solitary point to show for our efforts and remain nervously looking over our shoulders as we prepare for a trip to the Emirates on Tuesday night.

Monk added “Effort, desire – this team has got those things and we will show that until the season,

“But that’s one thing. We have to get results. I understand that, the players understand that.

“We have deserved more than we have got in the majority of the games we’ve played, but we have to have something to show for it.”

Quite what we need to do at this point to turn the performances into results is reasonably obvious but with eight games left we don’t want to remain known as the team that deserved more but ultimately never got it?
