Monk No Complaints In Defeat

A single George Boyd goal was enough to give Hull the win that moved them back above the Swans in the table but you would assume that both sides have enough air between them and the bottom three to ensure that this will be a Premier League fixture again next season.

Monk was very critical as well of the defending that led to the goal that settled a game that was dull at best to watch and I cannot imagine attracted the interest of too many neutrals let alone fans of either side.

Both Vorm and Rangel seemed happy to watch the ball coming in and George Boyd would not have been able to believe that he had all the space that he needed to run in and plant a free header past the Swans keeper to score what turned out to be the winner.

“We were very poor first-half, sloppy and didn’t pass the ball well,” said Monk. “It wasn’t what I expected.

“Their goal was poor defending from our point of view. Poor in the build up to it and poor defending at the back post. It was too easy.

“We knew the cross was going to come, so we needed to be stronger. We’ve been working all week on those situations.

“We probably did enough to get a draw, but we can’t grumble about them getting the three points.

“In the second-half, we were marginally the better team and pushed a little bit more.

“But it was a poor game overall. Neither team did much to win the game.”

I certainly cannot argue with the views of Monk on this particular one although it is massively worrying to hear again that we have been working on certain situations and then get caught out by them on the Saturday matchday. That either suggests that the work we do in the week is not enough or we just lose concentration on the day itself, either of which needs stopping.

I am not sure though that we did enough to get a draw, a truer reflection would be the last part of the comments that neither side did much to win the game and it took a dollop of generosity to make the difference in the game itself.

A poor display from the Swans and more work to be done on the training ground before Chelsea visit next Sunday.
