Molby should probably keep his particular nose out of this one as to my knowledge the Swans have not made noises about cashing in at all – all that has in reality been said is that the amounts that have been talked about are not sufficient to snag one of last season’s leading scorers in the Premier League.
Molby then continued that he felt that the striker would cost around รยฃ20m and then madly compared Fabio Borini’s move to Sunderland for รยฃ14m and stated that made Bony excellent value. Of course it would if you are using those figures as an example Jan but Bony is better than Borini and certainly more than รยฃ6m better so it’s a bit like bartering for an orange, using the price of apples as an example. Just because Sunderland are crazy enough to pay that kind of money for Borini doesn’t mean we would sell Bony on the cheap.
It wasn’t just Liverpool being lined yesterday, Tottenham were also reported to be interested in making a move for our star man but I genuinely cannot at the moment see any of these deals coming off.
We are not in a position where we have to sell and with just four weeks left of the transfer window it would be madness to sell the striker unless we have a replacement lined up and that there was an offer coming in that we could not afford to refuse.
There have been many guesses as to what that value maybe and some have stated รยฃ25m, others suggesting it should be upwards of รยฃ30m before we start listening but for me I am not sure that we could replace Wilf this close to the season given the fact that he has been a part of our pre-season and is already looking like he could be part of the most potent attacking line up we have ever had as a club.
Of course there is the chance that interest from elsewhere could turn Wilf’s head in much the same way that Spurs interest turned Ben’s earlier this summer. If that happens then holding onto our prize asset becomes a more difficult task but not impossible. I don’t see Wilf’s head being turned by anyone other than a Champions League team and I am not convinced that Liverpool’s interest at the moment is anything more than paper talk and the occasional rumbling of someone like Molby.
Time will tell on this one but I do remain certain that this player will be with us come the end of August although that may be wishful thinking ahead of inside knowledge – only time will tell.
