Nobody will forget that magical run that culminated in the 5-0 drubbing of Bradford at Wembley but with wins at both Liverpool (the holders at the time) and Chelsea (the Champions League holders at the time) made for memories that will live long for Swans fans everywhere.
The cup run that year was almost destiny – it was something that Michael Laudrup targeted at the start of the season and with it being our centenary season it almost seemed like fate that we would secure our first major trophy.
Even in the early stages it always felt good with wins over Barnsley and a scraped win over Crawley thanks to a late goal from Danny Graham and ironically a stoppage time winner from Garry Monk. Liverpool and Middlesbrough were both beaten before we held Chelsea out for 180 minutes to progress through and deny Bradford their own fairy tale as the team from the bottom division came within 90 minutes of European football.
We start all over again on Tuesday against Rotherham. A side at home from South Yorkshire. The first similarity to the 2012/13 run? Of course it may end there in all similarities but I have a feeling that this season could again see us progress in a cup competition. Of course that feeling may be wrong and it may be the FA Cup rather than the Capital One Cup but another day at Wembley appeals without a doubt and I see no reason why we cannot do it all over again.
People say that you need the luck of the draw to win trophies but we certainly did it the hard way last time around no matter how easy the final itself was. We had some good fortune along the way but ultimately we deserved every win we got and therefore we deserved the shiny trophy that we had at the back end of it.
First of course we get the league game against Burnley out of the way but then attention turns to Rotherham and what could be the first of many steps to Wembley?
