Monk’s Feet On Ground

Irrespective of whether the Swans end the weekend 1st, 2nd or 3rd in the league you would have to fancy that Monk’s record of four wins at the start of the season – the best the Swans have achieved for 91 years – would be enough to secure him a first managerial award, not a bad achievement for the youngest manager in the Premier League,

And whilst dreams of retaining our position until the end of the season are just that – dreams – Monk knows that the Swans first priority is that of Premier League survival but on this form it is a case of when we achieve it not a case of if.

Today’s display was a brilliant way to head into the first international break of the season and a win that was the least we deserved, Four wins, three clean sheets and seven goals is a start that was probably beyond any of our wildest dreams and one for which the manager deserves every bit of credit that will come his way.

But he is not getting carried away with it all as he said after the game It’s a good start, but that’s all it is.

รขโ‚ฌล“There is a long way to go and lot more work needed.

รขโ‚ฌล“But in terms of the start it’s where we should be. It’s good to have a winning habit but when you try to be a perfectionist you probably see more that went wrong than went right.

รขโ‚ฌล“We did many things right and it was important we started the game well and got the right result.รขโ‚ฌย

Monk’s team have now won 7 of their last 8 games stretching back to last season – not bad considering all the doom and gloom that floated around Swansea after his appointment. We have also managed those wins with a mixture of gritty performances and stylish wins like today where simply West Brom had no answer to our attacking prowess.

รขโ‚ฌล“We know what we are and we’re not trying to be something else, even when we are where we are in the league

รขโ‚ฌล“Trying to get to that 40 point barrier as quick as possible will always be our target. It is only our fourth year in the Premier League and expectations come with winning games, but we have to get there as soon as possible.

รขโ‚ฌล“We will reassess things when we get to that point but right now my only concern is the next game. We have to prepare our best and give a good account of ourselves.รขโ‚ฌย

Monk also added at the end of the interview that he believes international recognition should come the way of his players and this is a viewpoint now gathering momentum having been discussed on Sky Sports this afternoon as well.

And if we keep winning games then they surely cannot be ignored much longer?
