Planet Swans ArchivesI guess the biggest fear that we had going into yesterday was not that we would not get the new signings we probably wanted but that we would lose someone – most notably Wilfried Bony. With Arsenal scratching around looking for a new striker and late interest from Monaco there was always the fear that Wilf would be on his way out of the Liberty and I suspect there were many sighs of relief around Swansea when Sky Sports News told us around 6pm that Wilf’s agent had said the player was going nowhere.
That was after the Chairman had left his office for the evening and despite reporting from Swansea late into the evening there was no more transfer movement with the lights very much out in the offices suggesting – as proved to be the case – that the Swans were done for the evening.
There was departure – the contract of Jose Canas was paid up and he was back to Spain to play for Espanyol and Alex Bray was sent on loan to Plymouth to gain some first team experience. Modou Barrow came in but he is very much one for the future rather than the present and we were left with no additions to the first team squad suggesting that we had not managed to move on the targets that the manager had identified.
In terms of Bony, Swansea fans had started the day in optimistic mood that he would say. I have to say that I always believed we would hold onto Wilf this summer. There was always going to be speculation but as the summer wore on there was no firm bids for the player which says much about press speculation in that it is generally (or at least often) without any substance at all.
We asked fans yesterday morning whether Wilf would stay yesterday and over 4 in every 5 fans believed he would and they were proved right.

As with many transfer window deadline days action at the Liberty is never that busy. Whilst other sides scratch around to spend the last of the millions they have burning holes in their pockets traditionally we are pretty much finished at this stage. And in the words of Amy Lewis from Sky Sports last night in her Tweet we have had a pretty top start to the season.

Onwards with the league and cup campaigns and the madness is over. Or at least until January.
