Monk – We Weren’t At Our Best

The Swans secured a point despite the late sending off of Angel Rangel and despite not creating massive amounts of chances it was a deserved point despite Monk’s comments about the level of performance.

The result also halted a run of two league defeats and kept the Swans in 5th place in the Premier League table with the next international break just one week away from starting. A win next week could see us head into that break in the Champions League places in the division and would be a perfect end to a period of the season that has also seen us progress to the 4th Round of the Capital One Cup again.

“If you look at the game overall, we weren’t at our fluid best,” admitted the Swans boss.

“But the next best thing after that is to defend well and make sure you don’t get beat. We did that today.

“We’ve played very well this season, but we know we can’t play our best every single game.

“We didn’t create enough to win the game, but apart from a couple of headers from them it was a pretty much nothing game.

“It’s always difficult when you come to a place like this. Sunderland are a good team and they have a good manager.

“We had to show a different side today and were rewarded for that.”
