Grimes – League Two Games Have Helped Me

The England Under-20 team cannot reach the final following a defeat to Mexico but Grimes hopes that a win over China could see them reach the third/fourth placed play off extending his season a little further.

Grimes joined Swansea from Exeter back in the last transfer window and has found himself in the first team squad for the back end of the Premier League season, something else which he thinks has helped his career along.

However, he is recognising of the time he spent with Exeter before joining the Swans and believed that it has stood him in good stead for the football he is playing in this tournament.

Speaking to the Express and Echo, Grimes said “The games we’ve played in this tournament are a lot like League Two games

“The pitch is quite sticky, you get direct opponents. League Two has put me in good stead for the ugly side of the game. The defending, winning second balls and stuff like that.

“Maybe if I’d been at Swansea from a younger age I wouldn’t have had that in my game as much.

“I’ve had a variety of games, had a taste of the Premier League and played in League Two for a good amount of games.

“That’s what it’s like as a young player, you need to get as many games and learn as many situations as possible. Tournaments like this are really good for that.”
