Deeney has been a major factor behind Watford’s rise back to the Premier League and whilst Newcastle may put themselves in a position to make this kind of bid for the player I just cannot see any logic to me that says the Swans will be doing similar for someone who – in reality – will spend the season challenging Gomis for a starting spot.
The Mail reports that no official move has been made but I cannot think that this is anything other than an easy link – possibly agent driven – to talk up the value of the player’s signature.
The Mail says “Newcastle have earmarked Deeney as an option as they pursue Wolfsburg’s Bas Dost, Saido Berahino of West Brom and QPR’s Charlie Austin. Berahino is valued at รยฃ18m by Albion while QPR want รยฃ15m for Austin.
“Swansea have signed Andre Ayew and want another striker to support Bafetimbi Gomis. They have discussed a deal for Anderlecht’s Aleksandar Mitrovic but the Serbian is holding out for a bigger club.
Swansea have money to spend and Deeney would fit into their budget but much will depend on Watford’s willingness to sell.”
