Beattie Backs The “Standing Still Is Progress” Mantra

And after last year’s 8th placed position in the Premier League it is easy to understand why people are saying that as breaking into the division’s top seven without gambling with the long term future of the club is something that isn’t as easy as it sounds.

On the face of it the Swans have a strong chance. As it stands at the moment the squad has only got stronger since last season with the addition of both Franck Tabanou and Andre Ayew with none of our key players finding themselves heading for the exit door.

Goalkeepers and seemingly a striker (or two) are to be added which means that arguably we will go into next season with the strongest squad that we have had at any point in our 103-year history.

But rather than get carried away it is clear that everyone at the club has their feet firmly on the ground when they look at next season.

I am sure that internally we have higher hopes than last season but externally sometimes it is about managing expectations of fans who have seen nothing but success for around 12 years now and it is clear that this is the message that is coming across.

Beattie was speaking yesterday in Dorset in his role as a Football Foundation Ambassador “Standing still may be progress

“It is the sensible approach. The Premier League will see an increase in revenue from the TV money coming in.

“But you have to be strategic in the window. You can’t spend ร‚ยฃ20million on one player unless it is in line with your recruitment policy.

“You can only recruit players you can afford.”
