Planet Swans ArchivesThis time around it is Barnsley defender Marlon Holgate who is the reported target for Aston Villa who have allegedly made a bid of £1m for the defender.
Holgate is a right back and the Sun is reporting that we are also tracking his progress and there could be something in this story if we were honest. Holgate is 18 and just the kind of player it seems that we would happily take a punt on given his age and future potential
The key for me though is whether Holgate would even consider a move here when he is a regular in the Barnsley side. It is difficult to see him getting too much first team action ahead of either Kyle Naughton or Angel Rangel but that does not necessarily mean that we are not interested in him.
In theory he could slot into our Under-21 team and play the games that we have lined up this season against the likes of Arsenal and Aston Villa and possibly develop as much as he could playing first team football at Barnsley?
I can certainly see on this one why there has been a link and, unlike other rumours, I would not completely dismiss this one out of hand so keep an eye on the story as it develops just in case.
