Monk’s Disappointment In Swans Lapse

The Swans were undone by yet another set piece as Norwich scored the only goal of the game although you have to question the control that seemed to keep the manager happy as the Swans never troubled Reddy in the home goal.

It is all well and good having 66% possession but when you are creating nothing it is completely pointless and whilst Monk is right on some fronts that it was a lapse of concentration that cost us, there are more concerns than an inability to defend a set piece.

Only three players have found the back of the net in the Premier League for us this season and only two of those have been from open play that tells you much about where the problems are at the moment.

Monk said “I am very disappointed with the result, we had a lot of control but did not have the cutting edge

“We looked very comfortable and they didn’t look threatening until they got the goal. We talked about concentration at set pieces but one lapse cost us the game, we had total control up to that point without threatening ourselves.

“We tried to chase and get back in but unfortunately we couldn’t.

“We were using the ball well and were trying to get a chance but we conceded a poor goal and it is costing us dearly at the moment.

“We lost the game on one lapse and you would think that with us having control it would be them who had the lapse but it was similar to recent weeks where mistakes are costing us.

“It is now back to the drawing board and try to put the wrongs right. We are not far off where we want to be, it is just making sure we don’t concede at vital moments. I don’t think we deserved to lose today.”
