Montero has yet to really fully live up to the displays of the opening weeks of the season but he is not alone in being in that place and he will naturally be linked with a move this season given the way he is capable of tearing a full back a new you know what.
I must admit when I heard on the sports news on Saturday morning the words of Van Gaal then I knew that somewhere in the Sunday papers there would be the link and so it proved to be the case even though there are almost two months until the transfer window opens again.
Speaking on Friday, Van Gaal said “We still need players with more creativity and pace on the wings. That I have said five months ago, three months ago and now I am saying it again, but we need that, so we are still in a process
“That’s the reason why Lingard plays. But I have to compare him with other players in that position. But it is still what I have said five months ago and it’s no different,” the Dutchman added.
I remain to be convinced that a link like this would ever amount to anything more than that but lets wait and see.
