Clement On The Window’s Unfair Advantage

This could have been something that the Premier League easily avoided with a bit of forward planning and either made all the midweek fixtures tomorrow night or even closed the window say at 5pm today rather than the traditional 11pm.

Forgive me for being a cynic if that meant that Sky could not enjoy their traditional deadline day drama but it does seem somewhat mad that we have seven matches being played and completed less than two hours before the window closes at 11pm.

The Swans have so far secured three new signings in this window and are expected to complete a fourth today when Jordan Ayew and Neil Taylor swap places and Clement yesterday effectively said that this was the end of their business for the window.

We are though known to be after a potential addition in the centre of our defence although that looks unlikely to happen.

Some managers are critical of the need to have a January window – former Swans boss Garry Monk for example was a believer that the summer one should be the only opportunity that teams have.

Clement though does disagree “I would not like the window to be open all the time, with players being unsettled for 12 months of the year, so a window is needed,” he said.

“A summer window is obviously a must, and I think it is fair that we have a January window.

“I just don’t agree with the way some of the business is done during the windows.

“We got some things done early, but then some stuff gets pushed and pushed and pushed so you are dealing with things at the 11th hour.

“This time it is on the day of the game when other clubs have an advantage because the fixtures are split over two days.

“For me, that is not a difficult one to organise.”
