Steve Cooper has called on his side to remain focused as we head into the last 12 games of the season with the chance to compete in the Premier League next season completely in our hands.
Cooper knows that, thanks to our game in hand, our success is completely under our control but admits that it is at this stage of the season it becomes harder to remain focused as we prepare for the first of the three final games before the international break kicks in in just over a week’s time.
Luton, Bournemouth and Cardiff are those three fixtures and the right results in those games will surely secure a minimum play off place for Cooper’s side as they look to head into that final break with more than the 70 points on the board that is widely predicted to be enough to secure a minimum of a play off place.
But the requirement of the Swans boss right now will be more than that with the side sitting in third place in the table, separated from second placed Watford just by goal difference but with a game in hand.
It is little wonder then as Brentford play tomorrow, us Saturday lunchtime and Watford later that afternoon that discussion turns to the results of the other teams and one of the reasons why Cooper calls for focus within his own camp.
“It becomes more of test, to stay focused, to not let anything outside creep in,” Cooper said.
“We understand that as the games get chalked off then certain things will intensify and increase but we’ve got to work even harder to continue to do what we do and what has got us into this place in the first place.
“We’re not going to change now, there’s no need to. If we have to focus even more than we have done before then we have to embrace that.
“We said from day one this season, live in the moment, make the most of the opportunity.
“I can’t believe there’s only twelve games go, it seems like yesterday we were playing Preston away for the first game of the season.
“That will continue until the end of the season, it will happen like that.
“So we need to make sure we are getting the most out of every single day.”
