John not certain on increased Bolton stay

Declan John says he will not be rushing into any decision on his future despite impressing when on loan at Bolton who would clearly like him to stay as they bid to win promotion this time around.

It has been a dramatic fall from grace for a side who graced the Premier League for many years and only dropped out in 2012.ย  Since then it has been a gradual spiral of financial issues and points deductions which has resulted them plying their trade in the lowest of the four divisions this season.

But a good turnaround in form (they got just 9 points from the first 33 available) has seen them rise up the table and they currently occupy one of the play off places in what is a typically competitive race for promotion from League Two with just 6 points separating the first 7 teams in the division.

Bolton manager Ian Evatt has previously admitted that he would like to keep John but the player himself – who is out of contract at Swansea – believes he could still play at Championship level and is reluctant to commit himself to an extended stay in Bolton.

โ€œIโ€™m kind of just taking each game as it comes at the minute,โ€ he said.

โ€œMy contract is up with Swansea at the end of the season so perhaps Iโ€™ll just take a break and a bit of time in the summer and just go from there really.

โ€œObviously itโ€™s all about trying to finish this season on a high, you know I canโ€™t really look any further than the end of this season.

โ€œI think I can still play in the Championship week in week out, I back myself to do that so I just have to keep working hard and see where it goes.

โ€œI think if you look at the table now from where we were a few weeks ago looking back to the start of January sitting 19th or 20th I just couldnโ€™t really believe it. Everyone knows how big the club is with the fanbase, the stadium, and the training ground as well.

โ€œI think this club has got to be playing at least Championship football week in week out. You know weโ€™re sixth in the table at the minute so you know weโ€™ll just have to take each game as it comes and see where we end up.โ€
