Phil SumblerReports have emerged via today’s press reports that former Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has suggested that Steve Cooper would be his ideal replacement as the Blades face up to the reality of relegation and aim to bounce back to the Premier League at the first attempt.
Chris Wilder departed the club just over a week ago after a disappointing second season in the Premier League which has seen them secure just 14 points from their 29 games to date and currently they sit 14 points from safety, sure fire certainties for relegation after promotion two years ago.
Reports in the Sun suggest that Sheffield United’s first choice is Slavisa Jokanovic who has twice won promotion to the Premier League as manager but is currently in Qatar with Al-Gharafa on a lucrative deal meaning he could be priced out of any deal with the Bramall Lane club.
The report suggests that it is Wilder who has put forward the name of Cooper and also claims that the Swans boss will not come cheap but could be available if he fails to lead us into the Premier League this time around.
Wilder was supposedly forced out of Sheffield United after they wanted him to work with a director of football next season and he has also been at loggerheads over some failed transfer targets in the last two windows.
It is difficult to know whether there is any truth in these reports or whether it is just journalism to fill up column inches at the start of a transfer window, I guess on that basis only time will tell.
