Well that felt like a waste of time

Swansea City confirmed this evening that Paul Arriola had returned to DC United ending his loan spell at the club that started back in January early.

A recurring injury would have kept him out of contention for the rest of the season but this ends what never felt like a comfortable fit for a player who always felt more like someone who the owners of the club wanted here rather than the manager.

Of course neither party will ever confirm that to be true but the whole story of Arriola joining never felt like someone that Steve Cooper had identified to be part of his squad and his three substitute appearances totalling just 42 minutes suggested that to always be the case.

Arriola was one of two signings the club made from across the pond during the January window and his return follows the unfortunate return of Jordan Morris who suffered a season ending injury in the defeat to Huddersfield last month.

Wales Online reported earlier in the day that DC United were ready to cancel the loan but the Swans report certainly suggests that they would want it known that they had made the decision to allow Arriola to return.

Either way this feels like a total waste of a signing in a January window that is increasingly looking like one of wasted chances and more disruptive than helpful to our promotion chances.

Arriola’s time at Swansea was also blighted by tweets that he made some years ago which caused the club to reference them in an official statement of condemnation which you would also assume played some part in curtailing his time here.
