Reports surfaced in London earlier today that the Play-off final on Saturday could be in doubt due to the Indian variant of Covid 19 which is causing concern in the Hounslow area which of course is home to Brentford.
The My London report suggests that the game could be called off but this is not likely to be the case with at the moment confusion reigning as to what is guidance and what is rules in terms of travel in and out of the area.
At the moment it is just a general guidance that people should not travel in and out of the area but even if this were to become a “local lockdown” situation it is believed that the game would still go ahead although it could be played behind closed doors.
The agreement that was made before the semi finals was that if any local lockdown meant that a club could not welcome fans then it would apply to both legs – for the final that would mean if either Swansea or Brentford fans could not travel due to a local lockdown then the game would be played behind closed doors.
The paper report suggests that the team (Brentford) may not be able to travel but clearly professional sport continued during recent lockdowns and this is not believed to be an issue but the travel of fans could be.
Time will tell but we hope the game goes ahead with the fans there.
