It may not be the news you were expecting but Colin Staples, the head coach of Swansea City Ladies has announced that he is standing down as had coach of the team he led to a league and cup double last time around.

In a statement made via his Twitter account Staples said “After a great deal of deliberation and after a truly great year I have made the decision to stand down as Head Coach & spend some time with my other TEAM – Team Staples.ย  I wish the players, staff and supporters a very successful 21-22 season, THANKYOU”

Staples led his side to an unbeaten league season last time around as well as a cup victory in a season confused by the lockdown caused by global pandemic but ultimately it was as successful as any season that has gone before for the Ladies team.

At the end of last season, Staples talked about the Swansea City ‘family’ as he reflected backwards sayingย โ€œSwansea City has been like a second family for me. It has been a difficult season for me personally off the pitch.

โ€œThe Ladies have really been a great support and, on behalf of myself and my wife, I would like to thank them for what they have done for me.

โ€œNow we are looking forward to next season to do it all again.โ€

On behalf of all fans of the Ladies team we would like to thank Colin for his work at the club and wish him many happy times with his other team!ย  We sent those best wishes to Colin and received this in reply
