Loan deals with Brentford and Lincoln don’t happen to end a manic deadline day in SA1

It was one of those days yesterday as the summer transfer deadline day ended with two high profile departures from Swansea, two arrivals, two collapsed loan details and one deal still to be announced.ย  Oh and captain Matt Grimes stayed.ย  ย Busy day for anyone?

The two late loan deals that did not happen were the late news along with the signing of Michael Obafemi from Southampton, a long time target for the Swans finally signing but on a permanent deal.

Tariqe Fosu –ย The deal for Fosu was being lined up should Matt Grimes depart for Fulham.ย  But as we batted off a few bids from Craven Cottage in the closing days of the window, Russell Martin got his wish and the captain stayed.ย  It was what the manager wanted and – for that reason alone – should be viewed as good as a new signing in the window for the Swans.

Morgan Whittaker –ย It was a late effort from Lincoln to get last week’s hat-trick hero in on loan.ย  According to the local Lincolnshire press that was all set to happen but it was dependent on the Swans getting in a replacement – seemingly Fosu again – but there was just not enough movement and he will stay with the Swans for now.

Finally just after the closure of the window the Swans confirmed the capture of Obafemi.ย  ย He was almost here in January and we linked him earlier in the summer before the departure of Cooper so whilst not a complete surprise the speed at which it happened yesterday was maybe one that wasn’t widely expected.ย  ย And the fee of ยฃ1.5m (as we reported here) seems to be good value and in line with what we let Lowe go for so let’s see how he gets on.

All in all a hugely busy deadline day at the club and this is the final round up of the late night deals that did – or in the case of two of them, didn’t happen.
